Kona Fire Mountain Hardtail Mountain Bike
SKU: KON0002
A Kona Classic for Your First Real Trails
The Fire Mountain has been in Kona's line since the early '90s, and it is still the hardtail we point new riders toward. The butted 6061 aluminum frame keeps weight in check and handles predictably, and the SR Suntour XCE28 coil fork gives you 100mm of travel to take the sting out of roots and rocks. Wide double-wall rims with 2.25" WTB tires add grip and stability when the dirt gets loose.
The 1x8 drivetrain with an 11-45t Shimano ESSA cassette means one shifter and no front derailleur to fuss with. Tektro mechanical disc brakes, with a 180mm rotor up front, stop reliably in the wet and are easy to adjust at home. Kona matches wheel size to frame size: 26" wheels on the XS, 27.5" on the SM and 29" on MD through XL, so smaller riders get a bike that fits instead of one that is just short.
Whether you're riding your first singletrack, exploring fire roads, or turning the neighborhood trail into a daily habit, the Fire Mountain is a great place to start.
Kona has been building bikes since 1988, when Dan Gerhard and Jake Heilbron started the company in Vancouver, B.C. The brand grew up on the North Shore, helped launch the freeride movement, and has long been headquartered in Ferndale, Washington. In 2024 the founders bought Kona back, so it is once again a fiercely independent, founder-owned Pacific Northwest bike company building bikes around what they call The Long Sweet Ride.
